On a scale of “Strongly Agree” (5) to “Strongly Disagree,” (1) rank your position on the following statements:
Vaccines are safe: 5
Vaccines are effective at preventing disease: 5
Keeping children safe is a shared responsibility: 5
What is your position on West Virginia’s current school vaccine requirements (which allow only medical exemptions)?
Maintain current requirements
In your view, what role should the state play in ensuring access to vaccines—especially in rural or underserved communities?
I believe the state should play a practical role in ensuring vaccine access, especially in rural and underserved communities. Vaccines have helped prevent serious illnesses for generations, and families should be able to access them close to home through local clinics, pharmacies, schools, and mobile healthcare units.
At the same time, people deserve transparency and honest information from trusted medical professionals—not politics or misinformation. The goal should be simple: protect public health, strengthen rural healthcare access, and give families the tools they need to make informed decisions.
Which of the following best reflects your understanding?
Vaccines primarily protect the individual receiving them
Vaccines help protect both individuals and the broader community
Vaccination is largely a personal decision with limited community impact
Vaccination is a personal decision regardless of community impact
If a preventable disease outbreak (such as measles) occurred in your district, what actions—if any—would you take as a policymaker (e.g., make a statement regarding safety, coordinate with public health officials, take policy actions, encourage vaccination, etc.
If a preventable disease outbreak occurred in my district, I would work closely with local healthcare providers and public health officials to make sure people had accurate information and access to care. I would encourage vaccinations, support practical public health measures, and focus on protecting vulnerable populations while keeping the public informed in a calm, responsible way. My priority would be protecting public safety without creating unnecessary panic or political division.
Is there anything else you would like West Virginia voters to know about your approach to public health, community wellbeing, and/or vaccines?
My approach to public health is rooted in common sense, personal responsibility, and strong local communities. I believe West Virginians deserve access to quality healthcare, accurate information, and leaders who focus on practical solutions instead of political division. Supporting public health, strengthening rural healthcare access, and protecting the wellbeing of our families and children should always be priorities.
